I recently renewed my Office subscription after letting it lapse for a few months. It has only been two days but I can’t get Microsoft Word to function properly – it will open a new document but trying to save a new document results in the program freezing, forcing me to force quit it using Task Manager. Similarly when trying to open an existing document, the screen will show ‘processing’ but even after leaving the program for an hour, the document was still ‘processing’ but would not open.

Additionally clicking on any part of the window while Word is ‘processing’ results in the entire program freezing and needing to be force quit. The only fix seems to be to restart my computer; I’ve done this twice now and Word functions without issue immediately after restart but I need a more practical solution because I can’t be restarting my computer every time I want to open a Word document.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thank you very much for the reply but even after going through all your steps, I’m still experiencing the same issues.

I am wondering if this has to do with a larger Windows issue as in all my folders documents, pictures, etc the saved files are showing up with generic default icons which they also did after my OneDrive account was frozen when I did not renew my Microsoft subscription.
