The Preview section of the Font dialog shows the color of the font that is selected, which in the case of your screenshot, appears to be black. If for some perverse reason, you want to change it to black, expand it and select Automatic or Black as the font color.

I guess so. When I type, it comes out black. When I open an existing document, the icon is red but the typing is black. If the default color in the icon was black, it would not convey the information that its purpose is to change the color of the font.

Are you saying that red is the Automatic color? Any idea why the icon is red? Obviously, it’s confusing.
